Backcountry enthusiasts will love the lightweight nature of the K2 Wayback 106. As the name suggests, the skis are meant to go all the way back into the wilderness to find some powder that can be handled by a 106 mm waisted ski. When you skin up in the morning, it is really beneficial to have a lightweight, but high performing setup on your feet. If you’re too tired when you reach the top because your gear is too heavy, then you’re probably not going to enjoy your run as much. If the gear is too light, it’s most likely not going to perform properly on the downhill. The K2 Wayback skis are a perfect combination of both lightweight and performance. With a Paulownia wood core, partial titanal layer, carbon stringers and a fiberglass laminate, the skis are a great blend of nimbleness and strength. The wood adds snap and pop, as does the fiberglass. The carbon adds stiffness without adding a ton of weight. As a result, your uphill adventure will be equally as fun as your downhill. At 106 mm underfoot, the skis are wide enough to float on a good deal of powder. At 1550 grams per ski, the Wayback 106 is feather-light. With a 22-meter turn radius, the skis can handle a wide variety of turns, and the skis are able to shorten it up or let it run depending on conditions and terrain. The K2 Wayback 106 is a fantastic example of a lightweight touring ski that can absolutely shred on the downhills.
